Sounds like something similar is in place on the 3DS now. It would help Nintendo judge demand though, like a pre-order for the Nintendo eShop (or whatever it will be called on the WiiU). I think I can do this on Steam but honestly I've never tried as I'ld usually rather wait for a sale than be first in line. It would be very nice to choose a DL beforehand. I don't think USB external HDD are really the way to go though for soccer moms who want to DL Just Dance 4 and Zuma 3.
